Skin Tags – Also Known As Acrochordons

Acrochordons also known as skin tags are composed of fibers generally arrayed from collagen and the blood-vessels encircled along a calloused or diluted cutis.

They are tiny harmless tumors which form in the places where the cutis forms folds, such as the neck, groin or the armpits. They also happen on the face, commonly upon the eyelids. They are generally harmless and don't turn malignant or cancerous. Skin tags can get irritated if clothing or jewelry brushes against them, and they might become unsightly.

Skin tags can also materialize anywhere on the body, causing awkwardness and inconvenience. The size of a skin tag can vary; it can be as huge as a golf ball or as small as a pin point, though usually they are not very large. Although they are not harmful, since they are unsightly, people try to remove them.

To get rid of skin tags people try various methods. They cut it off with scissors, which is a painful process, but may get good results for some. Others tie a string and deprive the skin tag of oxygen and it dries and falls off. Some people in the East tie a hair of a horse’s tail to the skin tag for the same results.

But with advanced scientific technologies it is not necessary to try any home remedies. You can consult your skin doctor and he will just cauterize the skin tag. If you cannot withstand a little pain, then the doctor will apply an ointment, a local anesthetic to keep the process pain free. If you are still afraid of the procedure, then you can opt for cryo therapy, where the doctor will spray liquid nitrogen on the skin tag and it will wither away in a few days.

In short, skin tags are harmless skin growths, but you can get it removed if you feel that it hampers your looks or lifestyle.
